Start with a customer who has never heard your name. They know what they need, perhaps a service and a place, and want enough information to choose someone. Your website and public business details need to make that choice possible.

For a Suffolk business, that means being clear about your base, your real service area and the work you actually take on. The same clarity also helps someone who has been referred to you and wants to check the business before enquiring.

A Google Business Profile and an indexed website are different ways to appear in search. The profile represents the local business; individual website pages can answer questions about particular services and areas.

Google identifies relevance, distance and prominence as major factors in local ranking. Your location therefore matters. Serving all of Suffolk does not mean a business based in Ipswich will appear equally prominently in map results in Lowestoft or Bury St Edmunds.

Plan the website around the market you genuinely serve, and assess map visibility in the context of your real location.

Check your business information

If your business qualifies for a Google Business Profile, use its actual name, appropriate categories, correct contact details and accurate opening information. Represent the location and service area according to how customers interact with the business.

Google's business representation guidelines explain eligibility, storefronts and service-area businesses. A remote-only business should check eligibility before assuming it can create a profile. Avoid invented branches or a virtual address presented as a staffed office.

Review the important places where customers already encounter you: your own contact page, professional listings, relevant directories and social profiles. Correct conflicting phone numbers, old addresses and outdated descriptions.

Give each service a useful page

A customer should not have to infer your services from a slogan. For each important offer, explain:

  • What the work includes and who it suits.
  • What information you need before you can quote.
  • Where you provide the service and any practical limitations.
  • What influences cost or the approach.
  • What happens after someone contacts you.

Use the words customers use when asking for the work. Link the service from your main navigation or an obvious services page, and make the quotation route easy to find on a phone.

Cover the county honestly

A coverage page can explain where you work and how you deliver the service. A separate town page needs a real reason to exist, such as a distinct offering, relevant project evidence or practical information that changes for that location.

Google's spam policies identify doorway abuse, including substantially similar location pages that funnel people to the same destination. Repeating a page with town names swapped is not a useful county-wide strategy.

For example, a business serving Woodbridge and Felixstowe might have different delivery arrangements to explain. Include that detail only when it is true of the business; local-sounding filler does not help someone buy.

Show evidence a buyer can assess

Use genuine photographs of work, approved project examples and customer feedback you have permission to publish. If the business is new, explain the process, the people responsible and what a quotation includes. A clear, honest starting point is more useful than an unsupported claim to be the county's leading provider.

Invite feedback from real customers without incentives or filtering for only positive experiences. Google's review policy prohibits fake engagement and incentivised reviews.

Check whether visibility becomes enquiries

Record the starting position before making changes. Depending on the tools available, look at search queries, relevant landing pages, form submissions and the enquiries that become suitable opportunities. Ask new customers how they first heard about you.

A single search on your own phone is an observation, not a county-wide ranking report. Look for a pattern over time, taking account of changes in season, demand and the services you are promoting.

AI-assisted supplier research adds another route to discovery. Our AI search visibility service explains how to review it without treating a sampled answer as a guaranteed recommendation.

A manageable first step

Check the accuracy of your public information, improve the page for your most important service and try its enquiry form yourself. That gives you a concrete starting point.

Good questions, short answers

Can an Ipswich business reach customers elsewhere in Suffolk?

Yes. Your website can explain and target the services you provide throughout the county. Google Maps results also depend on distance, so broader website visibility and map visibility are different things to measure.

Should I make a page for every Suffolk town?

Only create a separate page when there is useful, accurate information for customers in that place. If the only difference is the town name, a clear coverage page and strong service pages are a better starting point.
